Lead Abatement

Matrix has been performing lead abatement activities since 1994 for commercial, industrial, and government projects.  Our team of certified and experienced staff have the capability to execute your lead abatement project safely and efficiently.

LEAD ABATEMENT: Lead abatement is an activity designed to permanently eliminate lead-based paint hazards. Abatement is often ordered by a state or local government, and can involve specialized techniques not typical of renovation activities.

HEALTH EFFECTS: Lead is known to cause a range of health effects, from behavioral problems and learning disabilities, to seizures and death. Children six years old and under are most at risk from exposure lead-based paint because they crawl on the floor and they put their hands and other items which can have lead-based paint dust on them into their mouths. Because their bodies are still growing, children tend to absorb more lead than adults.  Children exposed to lead can suffer from: Lowered IQ, Damage to the brain and nervous system, Learning and behavioral difficulties, Slowed growth, Hearing problems, and Headaches.  Adults can suffer from: Reproductive problems (in both men and women), High blood pressure and hypertension, Nerve disorders, Memory and concentration problems, and Muscle and joint pain.

REGULATIONS: EPA requires individuals and firms who perform abatement projects in pre-1978 target housing and child-occupied facilities to be certified and follow specific work practices. To become certified, individuals must be trained by an accredited training provider, apply to EPA, and possibly take a proficiency exam (depending on job category). As required by the EPA, Matrix has both individual and firm certifications for lead abatement.

Together, inspection, risk assessment and abatement of lead-based paint are considered “lead-based paint activities” in federal regulations because the main focus of these activities is to address lead-based paint.  You can be confident that with Matrix on your team, your lead abatement activities will be handled properly.
